Side Hustle Stack is a free online resource to find platform-based work, ranging from gig work and side hustles to platforms that allow you to start a growing small business. Li, Lila and I launched version 1.0 of the site on Product Hunt on December 3rd, where we finished as the #5 Product of the Day.

Folks who were looking for immediate-start jobs during the pandemic wanted an easy way to filter and find gigs that applied to them. Folks who were building the platforms that created these immediate-start jobs wanted a quick way to see if people would be willing to sign up for them. Operating in the middle of this intersection, it didn't take SHS too long after launch to feel the love. In the weeks after launch, we had several viral TikToks made about the site (this one by @alexcazam is sitting at close to 6M views), hit close to 4 million unique site views and crashed Notion and Super servers because of how many people were on the site at the same time. Featured platforms on the site also saw incredible growth numbers — for one company, 75% of their Q1 2020 signups came directly from SHS! As a final cherry on top, our launch was also covered by Business Insider.

I design all of our assets and make final calls on our branding, though I admit that did mean having a bit too much fun with the pancake stack direction. Everything done in Figma.

I built the initial version of Side Hustle Stack using a Notion and Super frontend that paired with an Airtable backend, expecting a little bit of love on Twitter for a fun indie project at most. Today, SHS is a revenue-generating entity that's netted partnerships with crypto companies, invited one of many thinkboi takes about loops, and proudly building out the infrastructure for side hustlers everywhere.
